In its business year 2009 the state-owned forestry administration of Thuringia lumbered over one million cubic meters. This amount is significantly lower than in the years before the hurricane Kyrill, when the total cutting volume was at 1.4 million cubic meters. For the current year the administration has a logging plan stipulating a timber removal of 1.1 million cubic meters from state-owned forests. The careful cutting is still owed to the effects of Kyrill that lumbered 2.7 million cubic meters in January 2007.
Jürgen Reinholz, forestry minister of Thuringia, said: "The reforestation of the clearings and the ecological forest conversion with a view to climate change are our principal tasks."
